Getting Prepared

We look forward to your installation of your border system.  A well prepped yard will allow us to work most efficiently, effectively and safely on your project, allowing us to focus on giving you the best result.  Please assist with:

  • Please clear paths and access to gates. Make sure the path is wide enough to adequately accommodate our equipment. Standard gates are fine.

  • Pets and children,  Please pick up toys close to general paths to work areas.  It is also greatly appreciated when the pet waste is picked up.   We do have to crawl the entire length of curb to deliver the best product. We would prefer our focus be on creating the best border we can versus where we step and kneel.

  • All grade work in the area of the curb must be complete.  Options for us to complete this task can be made as part of the preparation for your project.

  • A review of the sprinklers may need to be considered if shapes are changed.  And to be sure existing heads are clear of the new curb path.  With a vast amount of irrigation products used.  We are not prepared to be irrigators.  We can assist in locating a reputable irrigation company should the need arise.

  • Sprinklers, Drip lines, shallow wires and lines all must be located and marked. At most, equipment we bring digs 2”.  We are not responsible for damage to buried obstructions.

  • Mow lawn 1-2 days before the install date to allow the longest possible cure time before next mow.

  • Lawn Watering,  No watering the morning of install,  night before would be good to skip also if the lawn is moist.  Avoid getting the curb wet for the first 12 hours after install.

  • Turn off sprinklers to be safe.

  • It is requested that someone is available during install.  Occasionally a quick decision is needed to keep progressing.  Also with payment due upon completion, it is best to be able to review the work.

We have arrived:

Great Northern Borders will show up usually with 2-4 person crew.  We will need a place for truck and trailer to set up within reach of a water supply.  We tarp the ground and do our best to avoid any spills on driveways or streets.  We will remove a 8-12 inch wide swath to lay curb in. There can be some debris from this to dispose of. Haul-off can be arranged. This swath will result in some areas “growing” back in. Your yard will show some foot traffic from us, and our turf tired gas wheelbarrow.  Quickly goes away.  We are in and out in quick fashion and will clean up behind ourselves.

When the install is complete and we have everything cleaned back better than we arrived a final walkthrough is completed.  At this time the project will be reviewed  and a final invoice created.  After review of care instructions and customer approval payment will be expected.

While admiring your new border system keep in mind,

-No watering for at least 12 hours.  You may hand water,  just dont spray the border system.

-Stay clear of the curb at least 24 hours.  Your curb is still not cured,  that will take up to 28 days.

-Keep the mower off and dont weed eat against for a minimum of 2 weeks.

-Curb can appear splotchy as it dries.  This is normal.

-Recommend resealing your curbing every 2 years to keep the colors vivid and curb long lasting.

- Great Northern Borders thanks you for trusting your landscape to us and our skills.  We genuinely hope you enjoy it for many many years.
